Enhance your skills in Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and AI with the new Digital Talent Lab at MUNI
We proudly announce the launch of The Digital Talent Lab, a new initiative spearheaded by the team led by Professor Stan Sobolevsky. This innovative Lab aims to enhance Data Analysis, Machine Learning, and AI skills of interested candidates through hands-on projects with commercial partners in the free and online Datathon.

Open to students, professionals, and enthusiasts in Data Science, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and AI tools.
Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University advances information and communication technologies. At the same time, it conducts top-tier research and assists with big data and large-scale computations across various scientific fields. How does the Digital Talent Lab complement this institution's broad portfolio?
„At the Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University, we welcome the establishment of the Digital Talent Lab as a valuable addition to our activities in data analytics and experiential learning. We believe that this initiative will contribute to the development of professional skills and support innovative approaches to working with data. We wish the project a successful launch and look forward to its further development,“ said Jan Mysliveček, Director of the Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University.
Do you also feel the urge of your Data Science and Data Analysis skills enhancement?
Over the past year, the team around Professor Stan Sobolevsky and Professor Jan Slovák successfully conducted a six-month pilot project in partnership with leading Data Science companies. The initiative provided valuable experiences and revealed a strong interest in Data Science and Data Analysis skills enhancement among professional and students from diverse backgrounds. The success of this pilot laid the groundwork for The Digital Talent Lab.
Stan Sobolevsky, the Digital Talent Lab CEO, is a mathematician by training, utilizing the value of big data, networks, machine learning and AI for urban and business analytics and innovation. As ML/AI researcher/engineer at Meta, Research Professor at New York University and Co-founder at Meetsta, Stan is passionate in applying analytic mindset and problem-solving skills to exciting scientific challenges and cutting-edge industrial problems with those who think beyond the code.
As Professor Sobolevsky stated: “The Digital Talent Lab is designed to attract both current and prospective students, as well as alumni who wish to enhance their skills in digital technologies. Participants will engage in small-scale projects developed in collaboration with commercial partners, potentially leading to internships, collaborations and another collaborative opportunity,” said Sobolevsky.
The Digital Talent lab offers an outsourced internships providing similar level of prospective talent engagement further improved by academic co-guidance, but with much lower level of initial investment from a company.

Digital Talent Lab is a key initiative of the Digital City Lab
The PhD students of Professor Sobolevsky are also the mentors in the Datathon, where the participants may solve also some contemporary problems connected with today’s urban complexity. As Devashish Khulbe, the Datathon mentor mentioned: „At Digital City Lab, we unfold the complexity of urban systems to drive cutting-edge research, innovation, and real-world applications. By leveraging big urban data, AI, and network science, we make cities smarter, more efficient, and sustainable—creating better places to live,“ concluded Khulbe, the Deep Learning researcher with a focus on graph AI models and their applications in large scale urban networks.
Bridging Theory an Practice through Datathon
Professor Jan Slovák is a mathematician and researcher connected with the Digital City Lab. This renowned mathematician with significant contributions to geometric analysis is currently also involved in bridging the classical theories with deep learning and AI (cf. CaLiForNIA and CaLiGOLA). Jan Slovák has also been the Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier Differential Geometry and its Applications since 2008. His expertise and academic leadership extend to strategic development projects on academic, national, and international levels.
As he stated: “One of the core activities of The Digital Talent Lab is the ‘Datathon’, a hackathon-style event that involves working with large datasets and leveraging mathematical and computational methods. This event bridges the gap between theoretical computer science, computational methods, mathematics, and data analysis. By providing access to cutting-edge tools and technologies, Masaryk University aims to strengthen its position as a leader in digital humanities and other digital fields,” concluded Slovák.
The Datathon participants will also cooperate with Daniel Bretsko, a Founding Engineer (AI/ML) at Meetsta and Deep Learning Researcher at MUNI: „In Datathon, participants will examine the dataset, perform initial data cleaning, explore potential analytical approaches, and formulate preliminary hypotheses or solutions. They will be challenged to solve specific problems using real-world datasets, building upon their initial explorations. We are there to mentor them when they examine datasets to identify trends and draw conclusions, often using specialized software and systems,“ concluded Bretsko, the Data Scientist with a history of working in the research and retail industry.
